WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

Aloha,
What started out as a 10th grade school project for biology class has turned into a career that has allowed John to travel the world and make a living doing something he loves. As a graduate of the famous Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, Calif., John has a delicate focus and understanding of light and how it can flatter a subject. Initially starting his career doing Commercial /Advertising assignments, John later moved into Weddings and Family Portraits. When asked what he is most passionate about he simply said, “My passion and desire is to make people look their best while allowing them to be themselves. My career in photography has given me the opportunity to meet people of all walks of life and have so many memorable experiences. We are all so different, yet so much the same!”

Haleakala Sunset and Star Gazing-Maui Photographer

Aloha,

My daughter was back from College in Oregon this past summer for 4 weeks.   I had the chance to share with her one of my favorite Maui activities.  Haleakala crater summit is approximately 10,000 ft up where the air is amazingly clean and clear.  Perfect for watching a sunset and then star gazing once dark .  Even though we are in Hawaii it is still very cold 10,000 ft up, and we were prepared.  We had multiple layers of clothing which included sweaters, heavy coats, gloves, as well as sleeping bags for after dark.  After watching another amazing sunset we climbed into our sleeping bags and watched the universe slowly spin by.  We pretty much had the place to ourselves as most all left once the sun had set.  Needless to say the stars were amazing.  My daughter enjoyed it so much so that when her boyfriend came over 2 weeks later she took him up.  Below are some of our fantastic memories.  Enjoy and Aloha-

Maui Paradise Wedding-It can rain, and then again not!

Aloha,

First off, I love it that Juan took out a Personal Ad in our local Maui News for Lindsey.  Ladies, you have to like that.  Maui weather is generally very cooperative with wedding events.  On this day Mother Nature had other ideas and threw us all a curve.   This is one of two events I had that day, and I must say you really never know what the weather will be doing or for how long.  Needless to say_ it was wet.  We had finished the ceremony, cake, and toast portion of the shoot when the groom said “lets head out to a another beach” which was a real roll of the dice as light was fleeting.  Lindsey was also game so we hopped into my car and off we went.  Now here is the funny thing.  Usually, when bad weather is upon us, its clear in Kaanapali and wet up north, but this day was special for JUAN & LINDSEY.  It was a 15 minute ride to Kapalua, and magically it had stopped raining up there. Even crazier was the fact that there was even a bit of a sunset!  It was almost dark, but we went for it and they were rewarded with fantastic images.

Enjoy and Aloha,

Maui Wedding Photography-Roberts Maui Wedding

Aloha,

Brittany & Ryan recently tied the knot on the grounds of new Montage Kapalua Resort.  The weather was perfect and all their close friends and family gathered around to witness there special moment.  Ryan, as a special touch, played the ukulele while his closed friend sang for Brittany’s procession accompanied by her dad.  After the ceremony wine and dinner was served out on Kapalua Point-one of Maui’s best locations.  Enjoy the images and Mahalo for taking the time to view them.

Happy 4th of July Weekend

Aloha America,

It’s a very festive weekend on Maui with plenty of people out camping, surfing, and sightseeing.  I will be shooting a wedding this weekend and Merriman’s for my fun.  We had a great little fireworks show here in Lahaina that packed everyone into front street.  I took this image from up on the hill and added the moon.  Kinda fun-

Haleakala Sunset-Summer Solstice

Aloha,

I recently went star gazing up on Haleakala summit this past June 21st (Summer Solstice).  The drive up was awesome with so many spectacular view options it seemed like I was stopping every mile or so.  If you want to see the vastness of our universe this is a must do, and AMAZING is an understatement for the experience.  We bundled up in our sleeping bags (very cold) and just laid there watching the satellites cross by, occasional shooting stars, and all the wonder going on.  As the winds were very brisk that night I was unable to shoot any star images, but you can bet I will be going back soon.  Enjoy and Aloha-
